Toonies is software that reads the numbers you give it and tells you what it finds. It is not an adviser, a broker or an accountant, and nothing in it is advice. You keep control of your data and can leave at any time; we keep the right to be wrong about a number and to say so.
What Toonies is
A tool that takes the financial position you enter, runs a catalogue of Canadian tax and benefit optimizations against it, and tells you which ones are live for you and what they are worth. It describes what it finds and quantifies it. It shows its arithmetic, and where it is standing on a figure it has not verified, it refuses to answer rather than guessing.
What Toonies is not
Toonies is a software product, not a registered investment adviser, portfolio manager, insurance broker, mortgage broker or accounting firm, and nothing in the product is investment, tax or legal advice. Findings describe patterns in data you provide and quantify them; they do not recommend a security, an account provider or any regulated product.
Tax figures are estimates calculated from published federal and provincial rates for the stated tax year and are not a substitute for a return prepared by a professional. Ontario and British Columbia are verified for the 2026 tax year; other jurisdictions are not yet supported and no figures are shown for them.
Projections and scenarios are models. They rest on assumptions that are disclosed on screen where they are used, and a model that is transparent about its assumptions is still a model. Decisions with real money in them are yours.
Your account
You need an account to use the product, you must be at least 18, and you are responsible for what happens under your sign-in. Tell us if you think someone else has access to it.
A household can have more than one member. Anyone in a household can see and change that household’s plan — invite people accordingly, and remember that a plan holds incomes and balances.
Payment
Toonies is a paid subscription. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay for the period you are buying; introductory pricing is described as such where it applies, and it does not commit us to that price forever. Renewal is automatic until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate a partial period. If we ever change the price of an ongoing subscription, we will tell you before the change takes effect, with enough notice to cancel first.
Payment is processed by Stripe, under their terms. Card details never reach us.
Your data, and the accuracy of it
The information you enter stays yours. We store and process it to run the product for you, as described in the privacy policy, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
The output is only as good as what goes in. The product cannot tell the difference between a balance you mistyped and one you meant, and it will do correct arithmetic on a wrong number without hesitating. Where a finding turns on a figure you supplied, it names the figure so you can check it.
We may be wrong. Statutory figures move, sources are restated, and a play that was right in March can be wrong in July. Where we find an error we fix it and the affected findings recompute; we do not warrant that everything in the product is correct at every moment.
What you may not do
- Resell or redistribute the product or its output as your own service.
- Scrape it, or automate access to it outside normal use of the app.
- Attempt to reach another household’s data, or to break the product’s access controls.
- Upload data you have no right to hold — someone else’s statements, for instance.
- Use it to provide regulated advice to other people without holding the registration that requires.
Availability
We aim to keep the product up and will not pretend to a guarantee we cannot back. There is no uptime commitment. Features change, and some are removed — the product is under active development and its shape is not frozen.
The product is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind beyond those that cannot be excluded by law.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost profits, or for a financial decision you made after reading something in the product. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
This is not us disclaiming responsibility for the arithmetic. It is the ordinary boundary of a software subscription: we are answerable for the product working as described, and we are not standing behind the outcome of your financial decisions, because we are not the professional who would be.
Ending it
You can stop at any time — cancel the subscription, or delete the account outright from Settings, which removes your data as described in the privacy policy. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to attack the product or other people using it, and we will say why unless we are prevented from doing so.
Changes to these terms
We will change the date at the top and tell you in the product when something material changes. Continuing to use Toonies after that is how you accept the change; if you would rather not, cancel and take your data with you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it, and the courts of Ontario have jurisdiction. Nothing here removes a consumer protection you have under the law of the province you live in.
